About Me

Name: Pete Jones
Age: 34
Location:Newcastle

Why did I want to be a team rider for Takoon?
There are several reasons, mostly I wanted to be part of a team of riders the help advise and promote a long standing brand in the industry, aswell as being part of a small community of like-minded riders. In addition to this I hoped that being affiliated with a manufacturer would give me additional motivation to push my riding for freestyle competition and to perhaps give some input into the development of their future products. For me, its both a pleasure and an honour to be a team rider for Takoon.

How long have I been kitesurfing ?
Probably about 6 years now although like quite a lot of people, I did have a slow start and didn't get out very often. I've been kiting very regularly for the last 2-3 years or so.

What kit have I used in the past?
In that time I've gone though quite a lot of kit, I started off with Airush Trio's then got a big Naish V4. After a while I moved onto the 2007 Waroos, before getting into C kites in a big way, starting with an NHP 666, then 2007 North vegas's followed by upgrades to 2009's.
For boards, I started with the Airush Square One, then progressed quickly onto a 555 (07) then Shinn Pro (07). When i started getting more into wakestyle i switched to an Aboards X-series, then LF Recoil Comp.

What gear am I using now?
Continuing in my freestyle vane, I'm now riding the Takoon Lux (137), with Furia's of various sizes. I also have a 5'8" Burning with which I'm learning to strapless surf with. I've had a lot of experience with all types of kit, and have tested quite a bit more gear other than those i've owned. I'm very happy with the gear Takoon has to offer.

Where do I ride?
Anywhere between Budle Bay and Redcar - I travel to get the best conditions the North East has to offer. I occasionally go over to Allonby when there's little wind over in the East. I'm hoping to travel more this Summer, and attend whichever BKSA events are within a reasonable distance.

NewSchool / OldSchool / Surf?
I like to do them all, although I'm pretty much a complete beginner in the surf, I like to boost high and do deadman's and board-off's, some rotational jumps (especially powered backloops and off-axis frontrolls and tantrums), and also some simple handlepasses, raileys, s-bends, which I really need to get some solid time on the water to improve.
